Strategies for Linear A level success - Michael Senior

This is a pdf version of my slides used on Friday 01 December at the national Heads of Sixth Conference in London. It will only feature on the Free Resources section for 14 days after which it will be removed. It's a Pdf version as the images are purchased copyright images and a ppt would essentially release them for public use and I am not allowed to do that.

Exam Review

I use this with subject leaders to help us analyse the 2017 A level results so we identify patterns where students under-performed. Avoid looking at the national picture, if your centre didn't perform well on a question then still look carefully at why that was the case and what can be done about it for next time. Just because the national data showed a similar pattern doesn't mean subject leaders can therefore avoid tackling it.

Marking and Feedback Review

The attached document is a sheet for one class and a sample of three 'typical' students within the overall class. The findings led to the introduction of SAMPLE MARKING to increase feedback yet not workload. Until teachers understand the mechanics and fine detail of sample marking they tend not to buy in though. SAMPLE MARKING will be outlined at the Annual Heads of Sixth conference on 23 June 2017 in London and all delegates will receive the training material needed to support the introduction of the strategy. The review of feedback will help you identify the areas where support is needed. If you need help with the review or sample marking email Michael info@seniorpress.co.uk subject line 'Sample Marking '.

A Level Mindset - the change curve - ppt

A Level Mindset author, Martin Griffin, has provided this slide which I use in assembly to talk through the way some students react to poor performance results such as internal tests or pre-public exams. I then offer workshops on tackling procrastination for which students can sign up and others are allocated the session if we know they need it but don't sign up voluntarily! Michael Senior, Director of Sixth. Note that Martin Griffin is speaking at the Heads of Sixth Conference on 23 June 2017 - delegates gave Martin great reviews for his session in November.
