    3. The resources include:
    4. Coping with unexpected interview questions
    5. Develop student thinking skills and thinking on your feet
    6. Bank of 150+ questions with pointers for subject mock interviews
    7. 250+ subject enrichment/extension activities
    8. Questions and activities for group work in a high achiever/HE preparation programme
    9. Plus 3 related ppt presentations on USB stick: Thinking Skills, Super-curricular Enrichment, Interview technique
  2. UP-TO-DATE ADVICE TO OFFER YOUR STUDENTS ABOUT TAKING A FOUNDATION YEAR
    1. Lizzie Burrows, Head of UK/EU Student Recruitment, University of Surrey
    2. Students need sound advice about whether to opt for a Foundation Year as they can open up a broader range of challenging degrees and can often be accessed with slightly lower grades.
    3. In this session, the typical course structure for key Foundation Years will be explored.
    4. The skills needed and challenges faced and progression onto degree Year 1 will be outlined, so that advisers can offer more up-to-date insight about opting for a Foundation Year.
    5. The University of Surrey offer 35+ foundation year programmes from Business to Engineering to Veterinary Biosciences.
  3. HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR STUDENTS TO BE READY FOR MULTIPLE MINI-INTERVIEWS?
    1. Lizzie Burrows, Head of UK/EU Student Recruitment, University of Surrey
    2. The multiple mini-interview (MMI), is often used as part of an admissions selection process for competitive courses. Surrey use this process for our Veterinary Medicine, Nutrition and Nursing courses.
    3. MMIs can be a daunting ordeal for those who have not been prepared.
    4. In this session, the typical tasks will be outlined and tips provided to help advisers support students through the process.
  4. DEVELOPING SELF-DISCIPLINE AND GRIT IN YOUR STUDENTS
    1. Peter Radford, Beyond This
    2. The surprising truth about self-discipline and grit and what this means for your students.
    3. Five strategies your students can use to become more self-disciplined
    4. How to grow 'gritty' students
  5. 'T LEVELS COULD REPLACE BTEC NATIONALS': WHAT HEADS OF SIXTH NEED TO KNOW IN ORDER TO PREPARE
    1. Michael Senior, CEO Netsixthform & Director of Sixth Form, Kingsbury High School
    2. T Level pilots commence in 2020-2021 and vocational qualifications are being reviewed, particularly BTEC Nationals, so it is time for heads of sixth to know much more about T Levels and begin to plan ahead.
    3. If the review considers BTEC Nationals as an over-lapping qualification then the shift to T Levels will become a reality for many school sixth forms.
    4. This session will provide an outline of how T Levels work, the challenges and the benefits.
  6. NEW APPROACHES TO TACKLING PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIOUR IN POST-16 STUDENTS
    1. Joe Sparks, CEO, The Green Room
    2. The approach is based on theories that the gaming industry use to keep students hooked. Joe simply uses it to change behaviour for the better.
    3. The session will provide simple, yet powerful conversational strategies that cut through excuses and get to changing behaviour.
    4. Joe developed his approach on disaffected, excluded students who were unable to improve in Pupil Referral Units: so he has tackled some extremely challenging behaviour.
  7. OFSTED & YOUR SIXTH FORM: PREPARING FOR THE NEW FRAMEWORK
    1. Michael Senior, CEO Netsixthform & Director of Sixth Form, Kingsbury High School
    2. The key areas heads of sixth need to know about the new framework will be outlined.
    3. Useful feedback from heads of sixth who have experienced a pilot inspection will be provided.
    4. By the end of November, feedback from those having been inspected throughout the autumn term will be available to share.
  8. IMPROVING OUTCOMES BY USING BEHAVIOURAL INSIGHTS TO HELP STUDENTS AND PARENTS MAKE BETTER CHOICES
    1. Stephen Thomas, author and NetSixthForm Resources Editor
    2. The Behavioural Insights approach draws on a large body of psychological evidence to 'nudge' people into good decisions by making key choices simpler, easier to make, more attractive, more rational.
    3. There are many practical ways in which insights from Nudge Theory can be used to help students engage more effectively with choices about their futures and make sound decisions about study strategies.
    4. Behavioural insights can also enable heads of sixth form help parents to support their son/daughter in more effective ways.
  9. CUTTING-EDGE EMPLOYABILITY: HOW TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR TOP CAREER ASSESSMENT CENTRES
    1. Katherine Bond, National School Engagement Manager, PwC
    2. Katherine will take delegates through a typical assessment centre programme so that sixth form leaders can experience what it is like.
    3. Delegates will be better prepared to share with students the demands and need for character to pass an assessment centre day as well as be a serious applicant at interview.
  10. FREE RESOURCES TO HELP YOUR STUDENTS
    1. Pete Langley, Resources Editor, The Student Room
    2. Established in 2001, The Student Room offers forum-based peer support for students with over 7,000 posts a day and is a completely free service for students.
    3. Heads of Sixth ought to know how The Student Room can support students (given that many students are using it) and the site also offers teachers a range of really helpful resources and features - all for free.

    3. What are they telling universities they need from universities?
    4. How can universities support students with learning differences and what can students can expect?
