Providing our students with professional careers support, and opportunities to develop employability skills, is a strategic priority of Lancaster University. We have a central Careers and Employability Service, a Management School Careers Service, as well as specialised employability teams in each faculty.

We encourage you to engage with our services right from your first year. Our services include one to one information, advice and guidance, interactive access to graduate recruiters, part time jobs through our Employment and Recruitment Service, as well as help to secure internships, placements, graduate jobs and postgraduate study places.

We also offer a variety of workshops to help you develop a variety of skills such as interview skills, and a Career Mentoring Programme. You can sign up to the Lancaster Award which formally recognises such extracurricular activity that develop your employability skills to help you stand out from the crowd.

Lancaster University has a plethora of support services available that work in partnership with your academic department and your college to offer you the right support at the right time.
The support on offer includes, but is not limited to, the following:

• Wellbeing and Mental Health Services
• Disability and Inclusive Practice Service
• Financial support (including bursaries, scholarships, etc.)
• Students Union support
• Study support (including IT, exams, learning and skills development etc.)

The collegiate system at Lancaster also provides another level of support for our students. This often takes the form of pastoral guidance, and each college has a College Advisor Team (CAT) team who are available to help and support you throughout your time at university.

Lancaster top university in the North West

Lancaster University is the highest ranked institution in the North West and 14th in the UK according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024.
We're top 10 in the Complete University Guide 2024 and consistently placed in the top 15 in all major UK league tables, as well as being highly ranked in international league tables such as the QS World Rankings.

In addition, The Times league table places 10 subjects at Lancaster in the top 10. These include Linguistics 2nd, Social Work 3rd, Art and Design 4th, Subjects allied to medicine 5th, Drama, Dance and Cinematics 5th, Physics and Astronomy 6th, Sports Science 6th, Communication and Media Studies 6th, Natural Sciences 7th and Creative Writing 8th.
