Lancaster University to create £2 million nuclear facility control room simulator
Lancaster University will address a critical gap by developing a nationally-unique educational facility designed to train future professionals in nuclear engineering, cyber security and related disciplines.
Consisting of banks of digital screens, and software similar to that found in nuclear control rooms, a novel aspect of the immersive high-fidelity teaching simulator, which will launch in Spring 2026.
Lancaster highly ranked in the new QS Sustainability rankings
Lancaster University is ranked joint seventh in the world for Sustainability Governance in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026 released this week and appears in the top 80 globally overall.
Overall, Lancaster is positioned joint 80th out of 1,994 universities globally, and joint 25th in the UK.
Lancaster named ‘University of the Year in the Northwest’ of England - The Times and The Sunday Time
Lancaster has been named ‘University of the Year in the Northwest 2026’ and also ranks in the UK top 15 within a new league table released today.
The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026 ranks Lancaster 15th out of 130 in the UK with ten individual subject areas positioned in the Guide’s top ten, and including four subjects ranked among the top five nationally.
The news comes on the back of recent league tables including the Guardian University Guide 2026, which ranked Lancaster as 14th out of 123 institutions, and The Complete University Guide 2026 (10th of 130).
